The journey of Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology from a technical institute to a multi-disciplinary University is fascinating. The small engineering college of yesteryears has now been transformed into a world class university spread over 25 sq. km. of land accommodating 20 sprawling wi-fi campuses with 7.5 million sq.ft. built up area. The university has 23 constituent schools offering 50 programmes. It is not the world class infrastructure alone but the quality teaching and research illustrated by the accreditation of NAAC of UGC and NBA of AICTE that make KIIT one of the most promising centers of excellence.
With 18,000 students pursuing under graduate and post graduate studies in Engineering, MCA, Management, Rural Management, LAW, Bio-technology, MBBS, BDS, Nursing, Fashion Technology, Cinema & Media studies and Language, KIIT stands out as one of the finest Universities of India declared under section 3 of the UGC Act of 1956.
KIIT educational conglomerate is unique in offering a wide spectrum of academic programmes from Kindergarten to Postgraduate level, earning it a place in the Limca Book of Records.

KIIT was conferred the University status in 2004 by the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India in recognition of its excellence. The distinction, which made it the youngest ever to achieve it, came only after six years of commencement of undergraduate programmes; thus earning it an entry into the Limca Book of Records on another count.
Responding to the needs of globalization, KIIT in its endeavour to reach out to every knowledge centre of the world has entered into academic partnership with more than 60 world class Universities. In order to promote knowledge sharing and collaborative research, KIIT embraced memberships of several important institutions including the International Association of Universities (IAU), Association of Indian Universities (AIU), Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), International Association of Universities Presidents (IAUP) and University Mobility in Asia and the Pacific (UMAP).
KIIT has the honour of housing the Indian Secretariat of UMAP which has a membership of over 466 universities across Asia and the Pacific. Internationalization of KIIT is not confined to its membership in several bodies and bilateral academic partnership alone, but enjoys acceptability by students, researchers of universities across the globe. Students from nearly 22 countries are pursuing their studies here while students and researchers from KIIT are engaged in academic activities in more than 15 countries, a fact that puts KIIT in league with the best institutions of the country.
An Illustious History
KIIT's unique focus on quality education with humane
touch resulted in its transformation from a small
technical Institute to a world class University within the
shortest span of time. The growth of KIIT as a world class
University spreading over 500 acres of prime land in 20
lush green sprawling campuses in a built-up area of 7.5
million square feet in Eastern Indian is incredible indeed.
KIIT Society had a modest beginning in 1992 with a
vocational training centre and a tribal school. The later
has now grown into the largest free residential tribal
institute of the world in the name and style Kalinga
Institute of Social Sciences (KISS). KIIT took shape as an
institute in 1997 when B.Tech., MCA and MBA courses
were started. It was declared a University (u/s 3 of UGC
Act of 1956) in 2004, within only six years of
commencement of Degree programmes, thus earning it
a place in the Limca Book of Records. Taking its growth to
the next level, dedicated schools to offer Bachelor
and/or Master Degree programmes in Rural
Management, Biotechnology, Law, Medicine and Dental
Sciences were established in 2007. At present, KIIT has
23 schools offering more than 50 academic
programmes.
