"ICDCIT 2006"

Highlights of the Event : The Third International Conference on Distributed Computing and Internet Technology 2006 (ICDCIT '06) was inaugurated by His Excellency the Governor of Odisha, Shri Rameshwar Thakur at KIIT campus on 20th December 2006. ICDCIT, organised by KIIT annually, is a mega academic event, which provides a platform for interaction among researchers and academicians from all over the world working in the field of computer science and information technology.

"Such conferences provide a platform for the local communities to exchange ideas with their international peers", His Excellency Shri Rameshwar Thakur said at the inaugural function. He appreciated the conference objective of providing an international forum for the exchange of ideas among researchers working in the area of information technology. Congratulating KIIT for organising the conference, he lauded the institute's initiative in taking up the challenge of preparing students from tribal communities to face the world, while providing a diverse range of opportunities to the students of the university. He hoped that the conference will also come up with solutions for the underprivileged. His Excellency Shri Rameshwar Thakur also released the ICDCIT 2006 proceedings.

Stating that the conference has brought prestige to the state, Hon'ble Minister of Energy, Information Technology and Culture, Shri S. N. Patro informed the government's initiative to implement state wide area network and Knowledge Centre to ensure knowledge connectivity upto village level.

Earlier, Dr. A. Samanta, Chancellor, KIIT-DU, welcomed the delegates and expressed hope that the conference will bring out several areas for collaborative action.

In his presidential address Prof R. K. Ghosh of IIT Kanpur, also regarded as the technical architect of ICDCIT, observed that the conference has grown immensely during last three year and termed it as a gift to the people of Odisha. Introducing the conference, Prof Hrushikesha Mohanty of University of Hyderabad said that this year's conference received 200 papers. Stringent measures are in place to select the papers and only 16 % have made it to the proceedings, which is published by Springer, Germany, he informed.

This year's ICDCIT will discuss the research activities centered around three themes, namely, network centric, program centric and data centric. Experts from different parts of the globe, including Canada, China, Korea, Poland, Spain, UK, Taiwan, Turkey and USA, are attending the three-day conference to deliberate on the recent research activities in the three thematic areas. ICDCIT 2006 is highlighted by sponsorship from leading IT companies like Lenovo, TCS and Cognizant Technology Solutions. The conference has come to receive high recognition in academic community in the field of information technology. The first edition of the ICDCIT in 2004 was attended by more than 100 professors, scientist, students and researchers from all over the globe.
