Odisha, a province in the eastern part of India, is noted for its great cultural diversity and abundance of natural heritage. The veritable linkage between biodiversity and cultural diversity can be seen in its blossoming form in the socio-cultural practices of the people of Odisha. There are interesting places to visit including world known sites for religious or spiritual pilgrimage like Jagannath Puri, architectural wonders like the Konark, biodiversity hot spots like IUCN recognized brackish water lake Chilika, Tiger Reserve of Similipal, tribal habitats with its pristine natural beauty, and many more. Depending on interest, the conference organizers are planning several post-conference tours of 1-3 days duration. Please contact convenor Dr. Motilal Dash <motilal.dash@gmail.com> to express interest in one of the post-congress tours.
ABOUT BHUBANESWAR
Bhubaneswar has excellent communication with the outside world. The city is conveniently linked to all the International Airports in India by Air, Rail and Road.
Biju Patnaik Airport in Bhubaneswar has regular flights to and from all the major cities of India such as Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai.
'City of temples' or 'the cathedral city', is what best describes Bhubaneswar, which has over 500 temples, some of them steeped in history and tradition, like the Lingaraj Temple (7th Century) dominating the skyline, and a few more recent ones like the Iskcon Temple (1991) in modern architecture.
NandanKanan Zoological Park is about 8 kms from the KIIT University Campus. Over 67 varieties of mammals, 20 species of reptiles and 82 species of birds coexist here. Some endangered species like Asiatic lions and Indian crocodiles are bred here. The white tiger too is an attraction here, while the ropeway connecting the park to the Botanical garden is a worth-visiting spot for fun trips.
Entertainment and Recreation : There are eight cinema halls in the city, and ten large parks besides a Regional Science Centre, the Planetarium, the State Museum and Rabindra Mandap -a well-equipped theatre. Some of these outlets provide opportunities for developing co-curriculars as well as the 'informal' curriculum.
Fairs and Exhibitions : Bhubaneswar Book Fair, one of the largest in the country, is held for about ten days, every year at the end of February. The Rajdhani Book Fair, a smaller fair, is held every year in December. National Handloom Expo is also held in December. All the fairs are held on Exhibition grounds, Unit 3, Kharvel Nagar.
