3rd Mini Sub- Junior Archery Championship Three Students of KISS in Odisha Team

Three students of KISS have been selected in Odisha Team to participate in 3rd Mini Sub- Junior Archery Championship, to be held at Vijayawada from 27th to 31st August 2010. The team will start his journey from 26th August, 2010. Four members in Odisha team, among which three students of KISS are, Anil Kumar Bage (Kolha), Jyoti Ranjan Nayak (Bhuinya) and Ranjit Nayak (Bhuinya). All the students belong to Mayurbhanj district. Besides three KISS students Binod Mirdha from Balangir also placed in Odisha Team

Shradhananda Das, Secretary of Archery Association hoped that the team will performed well in this championship. Dr. A. Samanta, Founder, KISS & KIIT expressed his satisfaction over the selection of three players of KISS in Odisha Team and extended his gratitude to Archery Association. Rousing welcome to KISS Rugby Players

Four students of KISS, who took part in Asian Championship 2010 held in Laos from 17th to 21st August 2010 as members National Rugby Team, were felicitated upon their arrival in Bhubaneswar on 23rd August 2010. They were felicitated on behalf of Dr. A. Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS and State Rugby Association. The players are Chhitaranjan Murmu (10th Class, Santal, Balasore District), Rajkishore Murmu (+2 First Year Arts, Santal, Keonjhar), Muna Murmu (+2 First Year, Arts, Santal, Khurda) and Niranjan Biswal (10th Class, Bhunjia, Mayurbhanj).

Indian team put up a good performance in Laos and with three other countries, like, Iran, Kazakhstan and Philippines, attracting a lot of attention. They also defeated the home team of Laos. These four players were also members of the victorious KISS squad in U-14 World Rugby Championship 2007 in London. They also toured Australia and France in 2008 and 2009 respectively. Training the students from the tribal community and grooming them into international players is a commendable feat, said sports enthusiasts.  

Meanwhile, three KISS girls have been selected to participate in the Asian Games, which will be held in China. Selection of as many as four students in the national team from a single institute is a matter of great pride for KISS, said Dr. Samanta, while terming their success historic. Mr. Priyadarsi Mishra, President, Odisha Rugby Association and Mr. Umesh Mohanty, Secretary also congratulated the KISS players.

2 KISS Girls selected for National Women Sub–Junior Football Team of Odisha

Two girls of KISS have been selected in Odisha team represeting the 7th U-16 National Sub-Junior Women Football Championship, commencing from 19th August 2010 at Haldwani of Uttarakhand. Earlier a Training–cum-Selection camp was held at KIIT campus for Odisha Women Football Team. Ratani Hembram and Jayanti Kisku of KISS have been selected in team Odisha constituting of 20 players. The players provisionally selected for the championships are Bishnupriya Mahanta, Albhina Lakra, Rachita Mallik, Pinky Lakra, Soubhagya Parida, Pratima Senapati, Jyoshna Mallik, Jharana Mallik, Sujata Mallik, Tiki Patra, Budheswari Majhi, Riki Patra, Sasmita Swain, Chitha Marandi, Milarani Biswal, Kajol Setthy, Sinulata Sahoo and Maneka Mallik.  

Dr. A. Samanta, Founder, KISS & KIIT expressed his satisfaction over the selection of the two students to Odisha Team.

Padma Bhushan Anna Hazare Visits KISS

Noted social activist and Padma Bhushan Anna Hazare visited Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) on 16th August, 2010. True objective of education is to instill a sense of duty towards society and country, he told 12,000 tribal students of the institute.

Referring to influences of Swami Vivekananda on his life, he said the essence of life is 'seva' (service) and this is the only secret of success in life. Work of Dr. A. Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS is an example 'seva', which he performs without expecting any benefit. Shri Hazare advised the students to make society part of their extended family and serve the poor to achieve true happiness in life.   

A good human being is defined by four key attributes-good character, good thought, good deed and sacrifice, he stressed. Sacrifice is an Indian tradition, he elaborated, while exhorting students to remember sacrifices made by freedom fighters to make the country independent.      

Shri Anna Hazare visited different campuses of KISS and witnessed the facilities. KISS is contributing to remove social disparity in the country by providing educational opportunity to the underprivileged, he stated.

Kisan Baburao Hazare, popularly known as Anna Hazare, was born on 15th June, 1938 in a poor family of Maharashtra. He has been recognized for his contribution to the development of Ralegan Siddhi, a village in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra and his efforts for establishing it as a model village, for which he was awarded the Padma Bhushan by Govt. of India, in 1992. He is an avid follower of Gandhian philosophy and is credited for solving the water scarcity problem and facilitating irrigated agriculture in the village.

AIESEC Information Seminar at KIIT University

AIESEC Bhubaneswar, a youth-run international body, organized an information seminar at KIIT University. Students from different top ranked institutions in city like IIT, XIMB and KIIT participated in this event. Interns from Hong Kong and UK shared their experiences regarding AIESEC at this seminar.

The Bhubaneswar chapter of AIESEC, which was formed last year by a group of KIIT University students, is working actively to provide international internship opportunities for the students of Odisha in major corporate and NGOs. Jessica, an Intern from UK, said AIESEC serves as a global platform for young people to discover and develop their potential.

AIESEC was formed in 1948 and is present in over 110 countries with over 35,000 members. Mr. N. V. Sastry, Chief Advisor, AIESEC Bhubaneswar, who also holds the post of Deputy Director, Training and Placement, KIIT University, informed that AIESEC will provide students of Odisha with international opportunities of leadership, project management and internship in the areas of technology, education and social developments.

KIIT TBI Incubatee Hellodoctor24x7 Wins Accolades

Hellodoctor24x7, an incubate of KIIT Technology Business Incubator (KIIT TBI), has won the Award for the Best Private Sector Initiative of the year - Jury Choice and 2nd prize in the e-HEALTH Private Sector Initiative Category-Citizen’s Choice at the 6th eIndia 2010, India’s largest ICT Event, held during 4-6 August 2010 in Hyderabad. 

Dr. Lalit Manik of Hellodoctor24x7 received the awards from Smt. K. Ratna Prabha, Principal Secretary-IT, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh in the presence of Shri C. D. Arha, Chief Information Commissioner, Andhra Pradesh. The eINDIA 2010 Awards are the premier accolades given to innovative endeavors for assimilating technology in developmental concerns. The awards have been instituted with the primary aim of felicitating and acknowledging unique and innovative initiatives in the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for Development.

'HelloDoctor 24 x 7', the first incubatee of KIIT TBI, was formally launched at KIIT on the 27th May 2010. KIIT TBI is a novel initiative of KIIT and the only business incubator of Odisha. It is supported by Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India. 

‘eIndia 2010’ also provided a unique platform for knowledge sharing in different domains of ICT for development. The three-day event aimed to facilitate multi-stakeholder partnerships and networking among governments, industry, academia and civil society organisations of different countries.

The eINDIA Awards have been instrumental in promoting the most innovative initiatives in the domain of ICTs for development and to spread awareness about the role of ICTs in addressing social concerns.

KIIT Students Shine at National Youth Parliament Competition

Students of KIIT University stood first at Group level and third all over India in 9th National Youth Parliament Competition 2007-2008 organized by Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Govt. of India. A team of seven students and Coordinator, Mr. B. K. Raju received the prizes from Shri Prithvi Raj Chavan, Hon'ble Minister of State (Independent Charges) of Parliamentary Affairs, Science & Technology, Earth Science, the Prime Minister's Office and Personal, Public Grievances & Pension at an award ceremony at Mavalankar Auditorium, Parliament Campus, New Delhi on 6th August 2010.

KIIT team comprised of students, Amrita Sarkar, Varinder Singh, Aditee Amitabh , Sangharsh Soumein Satpathy, Swarna Singh, Rudra Bhattacharya and Dibyadarshan Acharya. The Hon'ble Minister was highly impressed with the performance of KIIT students in this as well as other national and international level events.

Students of KIIT University has been winning accolades at national and international levels in academic, co-curricular, extra-curricular and sports in recent years. Guidance of faculty members and an enabling ambiance have contributed to their success. Congratulation the students, Dr. A.
