13th KIIT Annual Athletic Meet-2010 concludes
13th Annual Athletic Meet-2010 of KIIT University concluded here on 30th January 2010. Prerana Ambasta, student of First Year B-Tech and Pujashree Gadanaik, student of 2nd year B-Tech (IET) were adjudged as the Champions and Runners Up among girls, whereas Niraj Kumar Pradhan, student of B-Tech (ETC) branch and J. P. Singh (Mechanical) branch were declared as Champions and Runners Up respectively among the boys.
Among those present at the valedictory function were Dr. A. Samanta, Founder, KIIT Group of Institutions, Prof. (Dr.) Hari Gautam, Chancellor, Prof. S. C. De Sarkar, Vice Chancellor, Prof. A. K. Jha, Registrar, student volunteers from Hanseo University, South Korea, coaches of different games and a large number of students.
|Second Team of Volunteers from Hanseo University arrive at KIIT
A team of 13 volunteers from Hanseo University, South Korea arrived on a visit to KISS and KIIT on 28th January 2010. The team would be visiting different campuses and interacting with the staff and students during their eight-day tour. This is the second team from the Hanseo University to visit KIIT and KISS. Earlier, a twelve member delegation had visited between 20th and 29th July 2009.
Programme of the visiting team includes community activities at KISS, plantation, assisting in the preparation of food for the tribal students of KISS, game practice with the students of KISS and attending KIIT Annual Athletic Meet. They will also visit Kalarabanka a Model Village, developed by Dr. A. Samanta, Founder, KIIT and KISS.
Mr. Kim Seung-Jae is the officer accompanying the student-volunteers from the Hanseo University. The names of the students are Roshan Wagle, Jung Woo-Suk, Chang Dae-Sik, Lee Keon-Wook, Lee Si-Woo, Park Seul-Gi, Ong Sae-Myi, Kang Min-Hee and Wi Je-Hyo.
Welcoming the team in KIIT campus, Dr. A. Samanta said that the visit will enable the students of the two countries to understand and appreciate each other's culture.
|61st Republic Day Celebrated at KIIT
The patriotic fervor of the Indian people on this day brings the whole
country together even in her embedded diversity, said Dr. A. Samanta,
Founder, KIIT Group of Institutions after unfurling the National
Flag on the occasion of 61st Republic Day Celebration at the
spectacular sports ground of KIIT. He also greatly commended the
parade sequences by the students.
He said that KIIT is an expression of a free, progressive and
assertive India. We, at KIIT are serving the nation through KISS, the largest
tribal residential school in the country, where free education,
vocational training and all the basic necessities of life are provided to
10,000 tribal students. So he advised the students to
work vigorously for the development of our nation.
Republic Day is celebrated every year with much enthusiasm all over
the country and to mark the importance of this occasion, students of
all wings of KIIT, KiiT International School and Volunteers of
National Cadet Corps, NSS etc participated in the March Past. A lively cultural
programme mesmerized the audience and reflected the feeling of
patriotism among student of KISS & KIIT. The function ended with the
Eminent Child Artist, Child Chess Player and National Child award
winner and the pride of Odisha 'Akankshya Kabi' was awarded the best child
award for her achievements by Smt. Saswati Bal, President, KIIT Society.
She received a cash prize of rupees ten thousand on this occasion.
There were about 31 march past sequences, 12 show
segments and 9 tableau presentations by the students. On this occasion several
staff of KIIT & KISS were awarded for their outstanding performance during
their service here. A peace writing message by dignitaries and guests
was also organized on this occasion. Among others, Dr. Hari Gautam, Chancellor KIIT University, Prof. S. C. De.Sarkar,
Vice Chancellor, Dr. P. N. Razdan, Pro Vice Chancellor, Prof. A. K.
Jha, Registrar, KIIT and other distinguished personalities from
different fields were present on the occasion.
45 Foreign Dignitaries Visit KIIT and KISS
A large team of intellectuals from different educational institutions
across the world visited KIIT to exchange views on education system
and allied issues. The visiting team included Mr. Sanjay Wadvani,
British Deputy High Commissioner, Kolkata, Prof. Wolfer Ragnar Grimsan
from Iceland, Dr. Ruandet Wongla, President of Chiang Mai Rajbhat
University, Prof. (Dr.) Sul Dong Ho, President, Hanbat National University,
South Korea, Dr. David Sanderson, Director, CENDEP, OXFORD Brooks
University and Mr. Bijayee Judge Azorna, noted social activist and
Ramon Magsaysay awardee. They also visited Kalinga Institute of Social
Sciences (KISS), the largest residential institute for the tribals in
Dr. Wongla was accompanied by seven representatives from Chiang Mai
Rajbhat University, while Prof. (Dr.) Sul Dong Ho led five-member
delegation from Hanbat National University. Fifteen representatives from OXFORD
Brooks University were also part of the visiting team.
KIIT University and Hanbat National University inked a Memorandum of
Understanding on the occasion. Hanbat National University is the third
largest National University in South Korea. Similar MoU will be signed
with Chiang Mai Rajbhat University and OXFORD Brooks University. Visit
of these dignitaries points to the fact that KIIT has been able to
draw attention of reputed universities and institutions across the
globe due to its excellence.
Many National and International level intellectuals have been visiting
KIIT and KISS in recent times to learn from its experiences, said Dr.
Samanta, adding this is good for intellectual climate of the State.

Dr. Ruangdet Wongla is a highly accomplished young and dynamic professional and an outstanding leader for the CMRU. The CMRU has known unprecedented success under his guidance and leadership. Profile of Mr. Sanjay Wadvani, British Deputy High Commissioner, Kolkata
Sanjay Wadvani is a career diplomat who joined the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) in July 1987. Sanjay arrived in Kolkata, the city of his birth, to take over as British Deputy High Commissioner for Eastern India on 17 July 2009. He comes with broad experience from several overseas postings, in China, the Middle East and South America, as well as a strong background across the key services delivered by British diplomatic posts overseas.
15th Annual Athletic Meet of KISS concludes
Condolence meeting for Haiti Earthquake victims and death of Mr. Jyoti Basu
The 15th Annual Athletic Meet of KISS concluded here on 17th January 2010. Before the conclusion of the said event ten thousand tribal students along with staff of KISS held a two-minute condolence prayer in remembrance of the victims of Haiti Earthquake and death of Mr. Jyoti Basu, Former Chief Minister of West Bengal. The sports event featured 50 mts race, 80 mts race, balloon burst, tennis ball, high jump, long jump, musical chair, 110m hurdles etc. The participating wings of KISS were divided into different categories like Little Star (Class-I), Young Star (Class-II & III), Rising Star (Class-IV & V), Sub-Junior (Class-VI &VII), Junior (Class-VIII,IX &X), Sub-Senior +2 (Art, Science, Commerce) and Senior +3 (Art, Science, Commerce, BBA, BCA & PG).
Hiramani Kisku and Aamit Kumar Munda (Senior Group), Mahendra Besra, Manika Hembram (Sub-Senior Group), Sidhanath Soren, Sanjulata Singh and Ratani Hembram (Junior Group), Rajendra Kumar Jani, Jayanti Kisku (Sub-Junior Group), Anab Majhi, Sumitra Banara (Rising Star Group), Ramachandra Mandra (Young Star Group) and Chambru Murmu, Draupadi Jhadia ( Little Star Group) were adjudged as the Champions in their respective groups.
Prof. (Dr.) Sul Dong Ho, Hon'ble President Hanbat National University, South Korea, Mr. David of OXFORD Brooks University, Dr. A. Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS were present at the Valedictory ceremony. The invited guests distributed the prizes among the students.
Solar Eclipse Sky watching Programme at KISS
Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences in collaboration with Samant Chandra Sekher Amateur Astronomers Association organized the Solar Eclipse Programme at KISS on15th January, 2010. In this regard, scientists from the Institute of Physics, Utkal University Physics Dept. and Retd. Scientists of DRDO interacted with the students, teachers and public.
Students of KISS carried telescopes and filters to understand this celestial phenomenon. They also photographed the solar eclipse and studied animal and plant behaviour during the eclipse. A solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the Sun and the Earth so that the Sun is fully or partially covered. This can only happen during a new moon, when the Sun and Moon are in conjunction as seen from the Earth.
Five Thousand representatives go back with unforgettable recollections at KIIT
For the first time Odisha hosted the 15th National Youth Festival at temple
city Bhubaneswar, which saw an assemblage of youths from across the country who gathered together
to showcase their cultural and traditional specialty. It was a proud
occasion for KIIT University also, which was one of the few venues in
the city chosen to host this cultural extravaganza and organized
accommodations for five thousand youth. So for eight days KIIT University
became a melting pot of cultures with the convergence of thousands of
youths from different states of the country. They went back with contentment and some unforgettable memories of KIIT’s
Playing a crucial role in the successful organization of this mega event,
KIIT arranged online registration in association with IT patent of CSM,
help desks, first aid and medical facility at KIMS. All campuses of
KIIT bore a festive look with decorative lights at night. Youth
expressed their happiness at KIIT's settlement for smooth conduct
of this mega event with 200 volunteers rendering 24 hours service.
During the festival the lighting decoration, the well accommodation
system, the volunteers cooperation for providing all kinds of help
was commendable, reported some youth representatives.
Two artist's Siba Prasad Padua of West Bengal and Siba Sankar
Mishra of Bihar expressed their gratitude for getting a great
chance to stay at such a beautiful place as KIIT. Giving comfortable
accommodation to participants was a mammoth task due to sheer
numbers. Police made elaborate security arrangements by deploying a
large number of police for the 18 to 25 years age group and for boys
and girls in different category, who stayed at KIIT. Competent and alert hostel staffs were available
round the clock to take care of all needs of the inmates.
The State-of-the-art Convention Center and Auditorium of KIIT
University were centers of many events of the festival such as
‘Suvichar’, National Youth Convention, Adolescent and Life Skill
Development Fairs and cultural shows. Renounced Gandhian Social
Activist Dr. S. N. Subarao, Dr. Radhakrishnan Nayar, Faculty of Life
Skill Education, Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Youth Development were
involved in the festival to show a perfect way to youth for the
Surajit Sinha, Guide of West Bengal team and other guides highly
appreciated the peacefully maintenance and perfect arrangement of
KIIT. Dr. A. Samanta extended his gratitude to the Government of Odisha for giving KIIT
a chance to serve the youth at this national level event.
