Online Registration for 99th ISC Launched

The online registration facility for the 99th Indian Science Congress to be held in KIIT University from 3rd January 2012 was launched yesterday. More than 15000 scientists from India and abroad will attend the five-day Science Congress, which will be inaugurated by the Prime Minister of India. It is being hosted by KIIT University, Bhubaneswar in collaboration with NISER, Bhubaneswar. In order to facilitate the registration of such a huge number of delegates expected to arrive in Bhubaneswar, the process of registration has been made online.

Adequate arrangements have been made by KIIT for this greatest scientific extravaganza. An exhaustive website for the 99th Indian Science Congress has been prepared from where all details about it can be obtained. The website (www.isc2012.com) is linked to the official website of KIIT University (www.kiit.ac.in), website of NISER (www.niser.ac.in) and website of Indian Science Congress Association (www.sciencecongress.nic.in).

The online registration will facilitate interested participants to register themselves in various categories, the details of which have been incorporated in the online registration forms. A different fee for registration has been fixed for different categories of members and the participants are requested to fill in the forms as per the directions provided there. The works related to the 99th Indian Science Congress finally started with the opening of this facility.

Hanseo Varsity Students Meet Governor

15-member students' delegation from Hanseo University, South Korea met Shri M. C. Bhandare, His Excellency the Governor of Odisha on July 26, 2011. The delegation is on a 10-day visit to KIIT and KISS as a part of student exchange arrangement between KIIT University and Hanseo University.

Welcoming the Korean students at Raj Bhawan, Shri Bhandare said that academic, student and cultural exchange programme between the two universities is an important step in the direction of bringing the two countries closer. He congratulated Dr. A. Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS for his successful initiatives to forge international relationship.

More than 500 students from South Korea visit KIIT & KISS for various purpose every year as a result of an agreement between the two universities. Itinerary of the students' delegation include tour to model village of Kalarabanka and trip to tourist attractions of Puri and Konark. In KISS, the South Korean students will take part in activities like vocational skill training, plantation and taekwondo training with KISS students. They will also see a tailoring unit set up in Kalarabanka with assistance from Hanseo University. During the programme, they will learn Odissi dance and English language.

KIIT Student Selected for World Youth Archery Championship 2011

Saurav Dutta, a 3rd year B.Tech student of KIIT University, has been selected for World Youth Archery Championship 2011 to be held from 22nd to 28th August 2011 at Legnica, Poland. Other members of the three-member Indian contingent are Ravi Sardar from Jharkhand and M. Chiranjivi for Andhra Pradesh.

The team has been finalized by the selectors of SAI Sports Club, Kolkata after a long drawn process. In January 2011, an archery championship was organized at Dhanbad to shortlist eight archers for a selection camp at SAI, Kolkata. Out of these eight archers, three have been selected to represent India. Saurav, who hails from Jamshedpur, has participated in Asian Grand Prix several times.

Archery, along with some other sports like rugby, football, shooting and volleyball, receives special importance at KIIT & KISS. A special sports branch of Archery has been functioning in KIIT-KISS since 2009. Experienced coaches have been appointed to develop this sport among the tribal students of KISS as well as interested archers from KIIT. Expressing his satisfaction over Saurav’s selection, Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS said that it is a matter of pride for KIIT and Odisha to have a participant in world youth championship.

KIMS Nurses Top Quiz Competition

Two nurses of Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), a constituent of KIIT University, won a State-level Quiz Competition organized by Neonatology Forum at Hi-Tech Medical College recently. Nurses working in the pediatric wings of six medical colleges of Odisha and 10 other hospitals like Shishu Bhawan, Cuttack, Ispat General Hospital, Rourkela, District Hospital, Koraput and Capital Hospital, Bhubaneswar participated in this quiz competition. Jhilmil Acharya and Puspalata Tandi of KIMS were adjudged best among them. They will now participate in the Zonal Level Quiz Competition to be held in Kolkata. It may be mentioned that Jhilmil, Puspalata and Padmini of KIMS have made KIMS proud by winning this quiz for last seven years, from the time the competition was instituted.

Yet another Students' Delegation from Hanseo University Visits KIIT & KISS

Yet another 15-member students' delegation from Hanseo University, South Korea has arrived here on a visit to KIIT and KISS. More than 500 students from South Korea visit KIIT & KISS for various purposes every year as a result of an agreement between KIIT University and Hanseo University for academic, student and cultural exchange. it is the 5th trip from Hanseo University.

Besides visiting KIIT & KISS, itinerary of the students' delegation include tour to model village of Kalarabanka and trip to tourist attractions of Puri and Konark. In KISS, the South Korean students will take part in activities like vocational skill training, plantation, teaching Korean language and taekwondo training with KISS students. They will also see a tailoring unit set up in Kalarabanka with assistance from Hanseo University. During the programme, they will learn Odissi dance and English language. Also they will learn about the teaching process both in KIIT and KISS.

It is expected that visit of Hanseo University students will indirectly benefit tourism industry in the State. Dr. A. Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS has expressed gratitude to Dr. Ham Kee-Sun, President & Founder, Hanseo University for his cooperation resulting in the two Universities working together in the fields of education and social service. This cooperation will continue in future, he said.

KIIT Becomes 2nd University to Get Wipro's Mission 10X Innovation Chair

KIIT University has achieved the distinction of becoming the 2nd university in the country to have Mission 10X Innovation Chair. This was announced following a MoU between KIIT University and Wipro's Mission 10X for Mission 10X - Chair Professorship Scheme on 19th July 2011 at KIIT. The MoU was signed by Dr. Sasmita Samanta, Registrar, on behalf of KIIT University, and Mr. S. Nagarjuna, General Manager & Head, on behalf of Wipro Mission 10X. SASTRA University of Tamil Nadu is the other university to have this prestigious chair.

Wipro's Mission 10X, which has an objective to encourage engineering faculty members to actively participate and work towards improving education technology in India, has identified KIIT University as a Concept Centre in eastern region. Prof. Harpal Thethi of KIIT University has been appointed as the 1st Mission 10X Innovation Chair faculty at KIIT University, while Prof. Animesh Tripathy and Prof. Prachet Bhuiyan of KIIT University have been approved as Master Trainers.

The Mission 10X Chair Professorship grant shall be awarded to distinguished members of Engineering Faculty at KIIT University in recognition to their outstanding contributions towars engineering education falling within the preview of enhanced employability skills in students. The Mission 10X Chair Professor or Faculty would continue their institutional affiliation and work in their respective institute where Mission 10X Concept Centre facilities are available.

The journey of Wipro's Mission10X began from KIIT University in 2007, while its Training Centre for eastern region is functioning at KIIT for last two years. The Mission was desirous of instituting its Innovation Chair in KIIT for last one year. This decision of Wipro's Mission 10X will enhance th skills of trainers and result in higher employability of the University's engineering graduates, said Dr. A. Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS. KIIT will extend all possible assistance so as to enable the Mission achieve its objectives, he added.

Mr. Hemachandra Bhat, Head-Learning Aids, Mission 10X and Prof. A. S. Kolaskar were present at the MoU signing ceremony.

“RATHAYATRA” celebrated at Shrivani Khetra, KISS

The world famous auspicious occasion of Rath Yatra was celebrated at Shrivani khetra of KISS on 3rd July 2011 amid religious fervor and gaiety. More than 30 thousand devotees participated in pulling the three decorated chariots of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra being carried on three colourful wooden chariots, festooned with flowers, appliqué and mural paintings.

The Pahandi and other rituals like Mangala Arati, Mailama,Tadapalagi, Rosha Homi, Abakasha, Surya Puja, Chariots inauguration etc followed by procession of deities from temple sanctum to the chariots began in the morning as per the ethics and rituals of Mahaprabhu Shri Jagganath Temple of Shri Khetra, Puri. Thousands of devotees gathered to pull the three chariots in the afternoon after Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT and KISS performed the holy ritual of cherapahanra, the ceremonial sweeping of the Chariots. The special feature of Ghosayatra here is that, Devadalan, the chariot of Goddess Subhadra was pulled by only females.

Special sculptors from Puri were involved in making the chariots. All rituals were conducted under the guidance of Shri Acharya Pandit Surya Narayan Rathasarma. A few years ago, Shrivani khetra at KISS was set up on the suggestion of Gajapati Maharaja Shri Dibya Singh Dev.
