KISS Replica Set up in Bastar, Chhattisgarh with Assistance from NMDC
A branch of Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), the largest tribal institute of the world, has been set up in Bastar, a tribal dominated and Naxal infested region of Chhattisgarh, with assistance from National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC). A Memorandum of Understanding to this effect was signed between Dr. A. Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS and Mr. G. B. Joshi, Director, NMDC in the presence of Shri Rana Som, Chairman-cum-Managing Director at the Corporate Office of NMDC in Hyderabad on 24th June 2011. As per the agreement, NMDC has provided 30 acres of land along with all financial assistance to KISS in order to set up its replica in Kankar region of north Bastar district. In the first phase, 1000 tribal boys and girls will be admitted in this school. However, total 4000 students from five districts in and around Bastar will be educated here in near future. Like in KISS, education and all facilities will be provided free of cost to the students. The School will be a model school, for which development work has already begun. Various corporate bodies have welcomed the agreement between KISS and NMDC.
In the past, more than 20 national level NGOs had tried to set up such a school in Bastar with financial assistance from NMDC, a Navaratna PSU of Govt. of India. In view of high reputation and track record of KISS as well as abilities and dedication of its Founder, Dr. Samanta, NMDC had requested him to set up a replica of KISS in Bastar. It is learnt that NMDC authorities have been requesting him to set up ‘KISS Bastar’ for more than one year. There have also been consistent requests from many State Governments to establish replicas of KISS, a model institute having no parallel in the world, in their respective states. After Bastar, Governments of Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi are keen to set up such model school bearing all financial commitment.
It is believed that KISS will definitely be helpful for tribal people of Bastar to come out of illiteracy and poverty. Setting up of ‘KISS Bastar’ as well as interest of various State Governments to establish this model school in their states have given KISS model a national importance, opined intellectuals, adding that this is a matter of great happiness and pride. Expressing his happiness over the development, Dr. Samanta has said that no effort will be spared to take the new beginning to a fruitful conclusion. |

Rugby Match at Manchester City Stadium

- East Manchester Academy
- Manchester College of Creative Arts Academy
- Wright Robinson Sports College
- The Manchester Academy
- India – KISS School
- South Africa – Nederburg Primary School
- Trinidad and Tabago – Rainbows
- Thailand – Phuket Lomas
On Thursday, all eyes were focused upon South Africa and Thailand. These two teams were the favourites for the day. The South Africa team had a very experienced coach and support from a World Cup rugby winner, Chester Williams and the Thailand boys were experienced and big strong lads! The initial perception was that India had little chance against these two teams.
India’s KISS shattered the long held perception that rugby is only a ‘Big Lads’ game. They played a new type of Rugby at the Manchester City ground. KISS representing India demonstrated in each of their matches that rugby is truly a game that demands highest level of positive attitude, team spirit, coordination, speed, stealth and desire to win. The KISS team had the passion ‘To Win’. ‘India’s KISS’ team simply destroyed all the offensive and defensive capabilities of each and every team and left them confused and dis-orientated. KISS simply took full control of the ground !
The first game of the day was with Manchester Academy – this was a simple game and a straight forward win. The next match with Wright Robinson School was also a simple exercise, except on one occasion team KISS lost a little focus and that allowed Wright Robinson to score a try. The match with South Africa was quite tense. South Africa put up a tough fight, but they conceded to the 3S’s of the Indian team i.e. ‘Speed, Stealth and Strategy’.
Then to the final match with the Thailand Phuket Lomas. Phuket Lomas were an experienced rugby team and there were several big strong boys in their ranks. But, they too did not stand a chance with India’s KISS team and were fully mown down. KISS dominated the ground all throughout match and the game ended India KISS 25 – Thailand Phuket Lomas 0.
When the final whistle blew, everyone came running into the pitch, congratulating the India team. It was a moment to remember.
