National Symposium on Organometallic Compounds Inaugurated at KIIT (Feb 26, 2007) : A three-day national symposium on "Recent Trends in Organometallic Compounds and Their Industrial Application", OMCA-07, was inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.) Y. P. Viyogi, Director, Institute of Physics Bhubaneswar in the presence of Prof. (Dr.) N. Sarangi, Director, CIFA Bhubaneswar, Prof. S. C. Chandersekharan, IISc Bangalore and Dr. A. Samanta, Chancellor, KIIT University at KIIT premises.

"Science is the knowledge of material and physical world explores the unknown world leading to the discoveries which transform the world and make life more interesting", said Prof. Viyogi while inaugurating the symposium. 'Rasayan' or chemistry is the base to produce and reproduce various branches in science, he added.

Prof. Chandrasekharan lauded the efforts of Dr. A. Samanta for creating KIIT, a center of excellence, in the state of Odisha. He termed the infrastructure of the institute and its focus on qualitative education 'overwhelming'.

The symposium was organized by KIIT University in collaboration with the Department of Chemistry, Utkal University Bhubaneswar from 26th to 28th February, 2007. A large number of scientists, researchers, professors and students from across the country participated in the symposium. They include Prof. V. K. Josh, Barac Mumbai, Prof. Pranjit Ghoss, IIT Mumbai, Prof. A. K. Singh, IIT Delhi, Prof. Rabishanker, IIT Delhi and Prof. Mihiri Choudhary, IIT Guwahati. More than 23 invited and contributory papers were presented in the symposium.
